Growing Awareness…
..... Supporting Health and Wellness

The District Wellness Pilot is off to a great start! We are within 10% of reaching our targeted participation goal with 273 active participants. Some schools have higher rates of participation than others, but the bottom line is that there is still room to grow; so if you would like to join, please sign up by emailing our health coach Phil Dirusso at pdirusso@omcwellness.com .
This summer we are able to offer ALL employees, not just those eligible and enrolled in the Pilot, some great activities. Learn more...

Community Service
.......
Creating 21 st Century Citizens by practicing the responsibilities of a democratic society

Last week the Board Policy Committee began a study for establishing a community service requirement for graduation. The Board believes community service could provide opportunities for students to learn more about themselves and their communities, to connect with others, and to contribute to a meaningful cause.
If you're passionate about engaging youth in their community, or if you know of a student who should be consulted to help explore this topic, please click here to learn how you can help.

Meeting our Mission in the 21st Century

Preparing students to become fluent learners, critical thinkers and creative contributors to society takes on new dimensions in the 21st Century. Citizenship development now includes interactions both in person and online. Regardless of the context, we want our students to involve themselves in conduct that is engaging and meaningful while being responsible to others in the community and society. In order to support all our students to become active and ethical citizens, we need to understand what students are doing in their digital lives and learn how to be stewards of their development.

Comprehensive Strategic Planning Committee-To meet its mission in the years ahead, the system must have the ability to ensure its students are prepared to thrive in a changing world. It must be able to use what is known about best practices in education, in 2009 and in the years to come, to provide outstanding programs and services. It must ensure that all students have equitable access to these programs and services. The system must find different ways to organize its resources. The system will need a plan to adapt.
